Church Life Director

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Church Life Director oversees Sunday Teams, Assimilation, and Congregational Care. They are primarily responsible for assisting newcomers in connecting and developing a sense of belonging, and helping current members maintain that sense of belonging. The person in this position has the responsibility of developing processes to integrate each person into the life of Redeemer and helping them stay connected and involved for personal spiritual development and service to others.

General Responsibilities

  • Continue to grow in the Gospel to ensure that you are actively worshiping Christ in and out of Sunday morning
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings 
  • Attend and/or serve at Redeemer functions as needed (i.e. partnership dinners, Christmas Eve Service, a conference hosted by Redeemer, etc.)
  • Participate in the creative planning of special events with the Staff Team
  • Participate and relationally engage in the life and ministry of Redeemer on Sundays and throughout the week

Sunday Teams & Event Responsibilities

Congregational Responsibilities

  • Communicating regularly with partners and attenders
  • Stays abreast of major life events (knows the pulse of the congregation)
  • Serve as liaison between all caring ministries of the church and the congregation ensuring that all pastoral needs are met by the appropriate ministry. 
  • Meet regularly throughout the week with Redeemer partners and attenders
  • Write cards to Redeemer partners and attenders (thank-you’s, new baby, condolence, etc.)
  • Engage the online community via social media (Facebook, Livestream, Instagram, Twitter, etc.), connecting them with the church.  
  • Oversee meal train activity
  • Answer and help with benevolence calls as necessary
  • Coordinate meeting of special needs

Assimilation Responsibilities

  • Responsible for strategic planning, setting goals and objectives for a comprehensive churchwide assimilation process
  • Oversee greeting teams and connections corner teams
  • Oversee connections corner to welcome first-time guests 
  • Oversee our process for following up with first time guests and newcomers 
  • Oversee newcomer’s lunches (four per year)
  • Collaborate with Community Groups Ministry Team to connect people to community groups
  • Communicate, collaborate and coordinate with other staff and volunteer leaders to connect people to their areas of ministry interest. 
  • Point person for Partnership classes (currently three per year)
  • Point person for Partnership Dinners (three to four per year) 
  • Give leadership and provide key tracking and reporting of people through the church CRM (People, Groups, and Planning Center)

What Success Looks Like

  • Redeemer has a thriving volunteer culture that is well-organized, effective, and highly relational (people find joy in serving and in serving together). 
  • When people gather on Sunday mornings, they feel a surprising sense of warmth and hospitality. If Chick-fil-a executives stopped by, they would want to steal some ideas from us!  
  • Event logistics are well-planned and executed so pastors are able to focus on ministry.  
  • The various assimilation systems and structures of Redeemer are working well and being consistently refined for optimal effectiveness.
  • Our partners and regular attenders consistently feel known, seen, loved, and cared for. 
  • We are “on top of” important events in people’s lives – childbirth, illnesses, major life transitions. We are celebrating and anticipating these things rather than reacting after the fact.
  • People move quickly through the stages of guest > newcomer > regular attender > community group member > serve team > partner.  
  • Within the next three years, 80% of attenders say that they feel meaningfully connected to Redeemer.

EXPECTATIONS & COMPENSATION

Hours: 40-45 per week

Reports To: Executive Pastor

Salary: To be determined based on experience and stage of life. 

Benefits: 10-20 vacation days per year (based on total years in ministry); five spiritual refreshment days, 12 days off for major holidays, 12 sick days per year, $1800 expense account; $1200 in continuing education; full reimbursement for monthly phone coverage, a laptop or iPad.
