Who are we?

Redeemer Community Church is a non-denominational church in downtown Johnson City that began in 2006 as a small church plant. Keep scrolling to see how God has been moving.

2006

Long-time friends Jim and Karen Fickley and John and Lindsay Fooshee felt the call to launch a church committed to coaching people and sending them out to live their unique giftings. So 56 friends began gathering on December 3, 2006 in a small living room with a longing to dwell in deeper communion with God. They used John 15 to define this new community as people who abide in Christ, love His friends, and tell His story.

2007

We quickly outgrew the house and started meeting at Trinity Arts Center. This was when we embraced "worship in the round". We joined the Acts 29 Network and dedicated 10% of our tithing to church planting.

2008-2009

Redeemer began to pursue global missions, We sent out two college students as our first short-term missionaries, and we began a long-term partnership with Fundaniños Orphanage in Guatemala.

2010

In 2010, as numbers continued to grow we attempted to plant a new community in the downtown area, but the growth of the original congregation didn't slow. At the same time, God was moving in the hearts of about twenty of our college students. These students had a passion for kids and showing them the love of God, and ended up forming LXI.

2011-2012

After outgrowing the Arts Center, we moved to our current location, the King's Centre in downtown Johnson City. Through our Launch ministry we trained two dozen church planters, missionaries, and marketplace leaders and sent them out knowing the truth of the Gospel and ready to share the good news with the community!

2013

Red Stone Church was planted in Johnson City, and City Church was planted in Bristol.

2015

John Fooshee felt called to minister at an Acts 29 church in North Carolina. As we began searching, God was already shifting the soil under the feet of Jeff & Lucy Martin, and in Jeff became our new lead pastor.

2022

In the wake of the pandemic, we have continued to puruse God's call, and we believe Redeemer's best years are yet to come.
